Clearanail® Nail Fungus Treatment in New Canaan, CT

What Is Clearanail® Used For?

Clearanail® treats stubborn toenail fungus (onychomycosis) by creating microscopic channels in the nail plate so topical antifungal medication can actually reach the nail bed at much higher concentrations. Dr. Jennifer Tauber, DPM, offers it at New Canaan Podiatry as a painless, in-office alternative to oral antifungals, with most patients seeing improvement within 2 to 8 weeks.

Why Topical Treatments Alone Often Fall Short

Fungal nails are frustrating to treat because the fungus lives under a nail plate that most topical medications simply can’t penetrate well enough on their own. Oral antifungals solve the penetration problem by traveling through the bloodstream instead, but that route brings its own baggage, including a real risk of liver toxicity for some patients. Clearanail® sidesteps both problems by opening a direct path through the nail itself.

How the Technology Works

Clearanail® uses what’s called Controlled Micro Penetration, or CMP®, to create channels just 0.4mm wide in the nail plate. Those channels let topical antifungal treatment reach the nail bed directly, at concentrations far higher than a topical could ever achieve going through an intact nail. The device is automated with a built-in fail-safe that pulls back the moment it reaches the nail bed, so the procedure stays painless and safe by design. The holes themselves are close to invisible and close up naturally as the nail grows out.

Who Tends to Be a Good Candidate

Clearanail® is a strong option if you’re dealing with nail fungus and want real results without the risks that come with oral medication. It’s especially well suited to patients with diabetes or other health conditions where systemic antifungal drugs aren’t advisable. It can also be combined with our Fotona ClearStepsâ„¢ laser treatment for a more aggressive approach when that makes sense. Dr. Tauber evaluates your nails and health history directly to decide whether Clearanail® alone, or Clearanail® paired with another treatment, is the better fit for you.
