MLS Laser Therapy in New Canaan, CT

What Is MLS Laser Therapy Used For?

MLS Laser Therapy is a drug-free, non-invasive treatment that uses two synchronized laser wavelengths to reduce inflammation, ease pain, and speed up healing at the cellular level. At New Canaan Podiatry, Dr. Jennifer Tauber, DPM, uses it most often for plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, arthritis, neuropathy, and post-surgical recovery. A full course typically runs 6 to 10 sessions, and most patients feel improvement within the first 3 to 4.

What a Session Feels Like

A session is short and genuinely low-key. Dr. Tauber or a trained clinician moves the laser handpiece over the affected area in smooth, overlapping passes, and the whole thing usually takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on how large an area we’re treating. Most patients feel a mild warmth and nothing else, no pain, no needles, no downtime. You can go straight back to your day afterward.

Improvement tends to build over the course of treatment rather than happen all at once. Most patients notice a difference by session 3 or 4, with the fullest results showing up after a complete course of 6 to 10 treatments. Dr. Tauber builds the specific plan around your diagnosis and adjusts it based on how you’re responding.

MLS therapy is often paired with other treatments at our practice, including EPAT Shockwave Therapy and custom orthotics, depending on what’s driving your pain.

How the Laser Actually Works

MLS stands for Multiwave Locked System, and the “multiwave” part is the key to how it works. The device delivers two wavelengths at once, a continuous 808nm wave paired with a pulsed 905nm wave, synchronized so they reinforce each other rather than just adding up. That combination reaches deeper into tissue than either wavelength could manage alone.

Once absorbed by cells, that light energy drives three things at once:

1

Reduces inflammation by calming swelling and inflammatory activity in the tissue

2

Eases pain by dialing down nerve sensitivity and pain signal transmission

3

Speeds healing by boosting ATP production and stimulating cellular regeneration

Put together, that means less pain and faster healing without medication, injections, or any real downtime.
